Preschool children will enjoy these educational apple activities and games in the classroom or at home.

Nothing says autumn quite like crunchy, delicious apples. Preschoolers love them and will love to learn all about this tasty fruit with some creative apple activities that can be done as a group in the preschool classroom or at home with siblings and family. Celebrate the coming of fall, the start of school, or the simplicity and healthy benefits of apples with the children this season.

Apple Ink Stamping

Apple stamping is a great preschool activity for kids. Simply prepare apples by cutting them in half or quarters and provide inkpads of various colors for children to use for stamping. Kids can apple stamp paper, autumn themed cards, or decorative paper bags. They can also do simple math activities by making the appropriate number of stamps on an apple math book that counts from one to ten.

Counting Apple Seeds

Cut apples in quarters (or use an apple corer) and have students locate and count the apple seeds inside. They can record the number of seeds found and eat the apples as a snack. Then, have preschoolers compare the number of seeds they have found by creating a bar chart, pie chart, or graph. Have students determine who had the most seeds and the least. How many total seeds were found?

Blindfolded Apple Tasting

Purchase apples of several different varieties. Cut them into pieces and label each type of apple with a number or name. Have the children taste the apples with blindfolds. Ask the preschoolers to describe how the apples taste and feel in their mouths. Use descriptive words such as sweet, tart, tangy, sour, chewy, crunchy, firm, and soft.

Another apple tasting activity would be to give each child one type of apple to taste before the blindfold goes on and see if the children can match their apple slices to the samples.

Making Applesauce with Preschoolers

Making applesauce with children requires constant adult supervision, but it will be worth the effort. Preschool children will be able to cut peeled apples with a safety knife, measure spices (sugar, cinnamon, etc.) and stir. Once the apples and spices have been pureed, the children will enjoy tasting this wonderful fall treat!

Recipe for No Cook Homemade Apple Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 3 lb sweet apples
  • 4 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  1. Peel, core, and slice apples
  2. Puree apples and lemon juice in batches using a blender
  3. Place pureed apples in a bowl and add all other ingredients
  4. Stir until well blended
  5. Enjoy the no cook homemade applesauce!

Create some fun and simple apple activities for preschoolers this fall and teach the kids all about art, patterns, math, and the senses while letting them enjoy the popular and healthy autumn snack. Genna Cockerham :
These are great activities! Our preschool went apple picking and we do a tasting, but I love the idea of a blindfolded apple tasting. Counting the seeds and coloring a graph of apple seeds is a great idea too!
