Kids use cardboard and construction paper to construct a log cabin. This is a fun project.

Abe Lincoln was a President with humble beginnings. He was born in a log cabin near Hodgenville, Kentucky, yet he was able to read and study and to grow up to be a powerful president. A log cabin is a beautiful symbol of his life. In central IIlinois, near the town of Petersburg, log cabins like Lincoln may have lived in are displayed in Lincoln's New Salem State Park near Springfield, Illinois. A cabin believed to be the one Lincoln was born in, is preserved at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site.

To build a log cabin every child will need :

Cut the piece of poster board in half. Then cut one half into half again. Use this1/4 piece as the ground for your cabin to set on.

Making the logs:

Roll the paper up tightly on a pencil. Tape the paper edge in place and slide the pencil out. This is your first log.

With your first four logs, glue a square base for the cabin onto the cardboard. If you prefer, cut two of the logs shorter and make your cabin rectangular.

Continue making logs and gluing them in place, first two sides than two ends, until you have built your cabin walls as high as you want them.

Cut a paper door and two paper windows out of the black paper and glue them unto the cabin.

Make a roof from the leftover poster board and glue it onto the cabin as the roof. You may want to cover it with brown paper first.
